The ladies in my fitness classes said they preferred doing burpees over inchworms anyday…must mean they work! I told the ladies the reason they probably didn’t like them as most women are not very strong in our upper bodies.
Two days after I did inchworms the first time, my lats (the muscles of the upper back under the armpit) were SO SORE, I couldn’t rest my arms against my side! These buggers will work your shoulders, arms, chest back AND abs! If you have the space, do “walking” inchworms across the floor (like in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr-HHgxXTqg#at=12). If you are doing these at home or are short on space, do them in place by walking your arms out into plank and walking your arms back to standing.
Your challenge this week is to do 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps of this 2-3 times this week. (a walkout and and feet to hands is 1 rep. If you are in place, a walkout and back to standing is 1 rep). Just be sure to have at least one day off in-between doing these guys. Tag your friends and have them take on the “Inchworm Challenge” with you!
